Freemasonry has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. Despite prevailing misconceptions and misguided beliefs surrounding Freemasonry, I've gained a deep understanding of its true essence and the positive impact it can have on individuals and society. The motto "Make Good Men Better" resonates with me, symbolizing Freemasonry's genuine benefits.
My journey into Freemasonry began unexpectedly. When my son was diagnosed with scoliosis during his teenage years, I embarked on a quest for knowledge about the condition and its associated costs. A friend informed me about the Shrine Hospital, providing free care for children with scoliosis. This revelation triggered memories of my grandfather, a Shriner, sparking my curiosity. As I reached out to the Shriners through their website, the secretary of the local Masonic lodge contacted me, offering valuable insights. I discovered that becoming a Shriner required prior Freemasonry membership during a meeting with them and my wife. Intrigued, I filled out a petition at the meeting, marking the beginning of my journey into Freemasonry.
The petition process spanned several months, and initially, I faced disappointment upon learning that I did not make it through. Confused and concerned, I sought guidance from a friend who revealed that I had been "black-balled," leading to my initial rejection. Undeterred, a year later, I received encouragement to try again. It became apparent that there was confusion about my identity, as another person with the same name was in the area, leading to the mix-up. I re-petitioned, successfully navigating the process and gaining entry into Freemasonry.
Since then, my involvement in Freemasonry has been a source of personal growth and achievement. I've seized the opportunities it offers, excelling in various aspects. Despite initial challenges, my journey into Freemasonry has been a transformative experience, dispelling misconceptions and reinforcing the positive impact it can have on individuals and their communities.
